This well written book will be my go-to manual for years to come. The author covers everything about cultivating backyard strawberries in Southern California. She lists and explains the best varieties for your area: close to the coast, hot inland valleys or cool mountains, and how to plant, propagate, harvest, cook and freeze them. Other valuable information is found about soils, pests, fertilizer, diseases, and just about anything else you would want to know about growing the luscious little fruits.
I heard Julie Bawdin Davis speak about growing strawberries at a garden club meeting, and I knew this knowledgeable Master Gardener would write a great book (one of many) and she did.

Julie’s book is full of interesting tidbits, from the history of this sweet berry, to which varieties do well in specific climates. I have been lucky enough to attend Julie’s strawberry growing class, and she shares such great tips in her classes, and also in this book. A must-have addition to my garden book library.
